The Singer’s Gym offers a four session workshop for professional opera singers. We run this workshop in the fall and in the winter/spring. It is open to ten singers who are chosen by audition. Each session focuses on a different aspect of singing with the goal of bringing more vitality, spontaneity and connection to the opera singer’s work. “Grads” of this program are invited to join follow-up “specialty workshops”. For information on our upcoming opera workshop, click here.
The Singer's Gym develops performing opportunities for singers. Our first venture was a workshop production of two new one act operas: The Lady Fortune by Shira Kammen and The Man in the Mirror by Ben Bernstein (Artistic Director of The Singer's Gym). The project was generously supported by our generous donors and grants from the East Bay Community Foundation, the Zellerbach Family Fund and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Following the success of the workshop production, The Man in the Mirror was put on the calendar for the American Handel Festival in Seattle in March 2011, with four performances. For information about the Festival see: http://www.americanhandelfestival.org/front-page-content/#more-55. To see a video of the workshop production see: http://vimeo.com/11636981. .
